The Call of God:

Being a disciple is best seen as a call ‘to walk in all his ways’: to love and serve the Lord, and imitate God’s character. Israel was called to be the people of God amidst all nations, faithful to the covenant with God, worshipping God alone, and living by the Torah.  God’s desire was for Israel to be a nation of priests, prophets, and missionaries, “a light to all the nations”, pointing others towards the One true God, and His promised Redeemer, Messiah, and Saviour.

We reflect on a small selection of individuals from Israel who were called to fulfil this purpose.

28th September — Faith and Trust: A new kind of God (Abraham and Sarah)
“Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you” (Gen. 1 2 1)

‘God also said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel, ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham,
the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you’: this is my name for ever,
and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations. (Ex. 3.15)

2nd November — How to rule in God’s way: God’s  kind of government (King David)
“Rise and anoint him; for this is the one.” (1 Samuel 16:12)

“Go at once to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it;
for their wickedness has come up before me.” (Jonah 1)
