The Year of the Word: the Gospel of Saint Matthew

Selected Thursdays 7.30—9.00 pm (refreshments from 7.00 pm)

These five sessions on Matthew’s Gospel invite us to open ourselves to the Scriptures as we journey in preparation for Lent and the celebration of Easter.

St Matthew’s Gospel helps us to continue to deepen our faith; our understanding of the words of Jesus and his wonderful message of new life and growth. We will glimpse how his teaching, miracles and parables lead to his death and resurrection.

30 January :  The Sermon on the Mount – the Call to Discipleship
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfil.” (Mt 5:17)

13 February : Miracles
“The blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have good news brought to them.” (Mt 11:5)

27 February : Parables
“Then the disciples came and asked him, “Why do you speak to them in parables?” He answered, ‘To you it has been given to know the secret of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.’” (Mt 13:10-11)

12 March : Before the Passion – the Conflict deepens
Then the Pharisees went and plotted to entrap him in what he said.” (Mt 22:15)
